Ask an Aquanaut: Food?

Moriah asks: How do the scientists get food from the surface to Aquarius?

Dear Moriah,
Our expert staff divers bring the food down to aquarius in special water-tight pressure pots. Everything that needs to stay dry goes down in these pots.  Before a mission the staff stocks the habitat with most of the food needed.  The aquanauts use dehydrated food mainly, just add hot water and they are ready to eat.  Very much like what astronauts eat.

Thanks for the question!

One Response So Far

JASON NORWOOD | October 18th, 2009

If we are to assume underwater living may be a futuristic reality then should we not eat foods underwater that would mimic real-time living and the effects and uses of certain foods that could be expelled through a food lock to feed fish and limit food waste on the ocean bottoms? Maybe a new pod that would make hydroponically grown vegatables using sun tubes that would float on the surface to provide heat and sunlight sources to the food items?? I personally wouldn’t want to eat freeze dried food all the time!!
I would love to help too!!
